Hello, I am Haitian

WARNING :: Brace yourself for the following post

Yesterday I read a post from someone about the idea of Haiti relief funds. Basically, he was upset from seeing all the Haiti relief signs and was expressing his discontent about such activities. His premise is that why are we so focused on Haiti when we could be helping the people in America.

What followed his post were a couple of other people who approved of his comment. 5 People “liked” his post, while 3 others approved by their comments. One of them actually gave a hearty “Amen.”

Basically, he was disturbed that there are Red Cross signs asking for Haiti relief, and was wondering if Haiti had signs asking for American relief funds.

This disturbed me. Quite a bit, actually.

Preaching or Witnessing: That is the Question

Ray Comfort Preaching

I’ve put a lot of thought into this idea

Recently, since I’ve found a new job, I’ve had the opportunity to share the Gospel a LOT! This is awesome! I never expected to be able to talk about Jesus and the Scriptures so much in my new workplace. What makes this even more interesting is that I had determined to not just bring up the topic of Jesus right away to new people I haven’t met. It turns out, though, that they are the ones who brought it up to me.

This seems very suspicious.

I wonder if God is doing this. I mean, come on… I resolve not to saturate my co-workers with Jesus, and they end up being the ones who ask me about it—all the time! I have no idea why these people would think I would have some kind of answer or insight to spiritual things, but for some reason they ask me questions. Most of them are not Christian and are opposed to the Bible, and one of them is actually a word-of-faith guy. All of them really need a better understanding of Jesus and the message of the Bible. I hope God does something through my brokenness to bring about change and influence in their lives.

But today has topped out all other days.

Reincarnation and transmigration of a soul, as...

Okay, so in case you were wondering, YES I forgot to finish this series. So here you go, the next in worldviews.

Following is the 4th installment of a series on Worldviews. There are seven questions presented by James W. Sire in his book, “The Universe Next Door,” which he says every worldview must answer. This book is used in many colleges for philosophy curriculum, and Sire writes from a Christian perspective. Though influenced somewhat by Sire, what I proceed to give answers to comes from my own words and thoughts. No quotes. If you want Sire’s opinion, let me know and I’ll provide that for you.

1. What is prime reality⎯the really real?
Brahman is ultimate reality, the universal soul. Each person’s soul⎯Atman⎯is also Brahman. Even more, everything is Brahman in separate forms; nothing that exists is not Brahman. Brahman should be understood in the same reality as God, except that Brahman is God. Therefore, every person is God in separate forms. Brahman, though, is impersonal and holds no intrinsic good nature. In fact, Brahman has no particular “nature,” for it would then be considered a “self,” thus having personality. Brahman, however, knows no “self,” rather it simply is. Therefore, it is not good, not evil, not right, not wrong, not loving, not hating, not intelligent, not stupid, not wise, not dull, it is beyond all these things; there is no differentiating in Brahman.

2. What is the nature of external reality, that is, the world around us? Read more

Keeping God In The Spice Cabinet

I Keep God In My Spice Cabinet

Lately I have been thinking about prayer.

I recently was able to do some outreach to a few homes. We gave away Turkey meals from Passage Church. This was cool in many ways. For one, it’s been a while since I’ve done an outreach like this and I was really excited about going. Next, I was praying that God would show up and He did. Also, it was my birthday, so what a gift, eh!

During our outreaching we delivered a meal to an family of 6. It was really neat. To make a long story short, Read more

Random Blah

That’s right, brace yourselves! This post is entirely random. So have a seat and grab some coffee..

Today is my third day off work from an injury lifting a large office desk. I’m going through some worker’s comp stuff… sheesh, make it go away!

My daughter is still in a sling from her injury of a broken collar bone.

School is going pretty well, but I sort of wished it was over.

I wonder if I should kick my coffee habit.

Philosopher’s Progress to Truth

A collage of four precursors of Existentialism...
Image via Wikipedia

The following is a poem I wrote about a philosopher‘s journey toward truth.

In this poem, I depict a philosopher who is uncertain of whether or not he can actually know anything. In his journey, he follows where evidence leads. Open to these truths he is not yet aware of, he begins to believe in actual truth. I think the Christian existentialist can actually overcome the idea of the lack of certainty. Faith can be something of substance, rather than a blind leap against rationale.

What truth be known
to lives be thrown
of heav’nly mysteries,
and cosmos, galaxies?

What light be shed?
What truth be told?
To the undead,
what rest behold?

Leave not the soul
in constant search.
Give heart, give strength
from since its birth

5:30 AM Comes Early!

Yikes! Coal Mining!

Especially when you’re used to sleeping until 9!

Well, at least that’s about what my sleep schedule has been the past 5-6 months or so. You see, many of you know I have been looking for work (since February!) and that I have had a very difficult time trying to find it. Recently, I’ve been going through an interview process with a furniture installation company. They install furniture for commercial businesses.

I’m really not wanting this kind of job, but it’s better than coal mining! Read more

What’s In YOUR Destiny?

What_s in Your destiny!

As opposed to your wallet . . .

Maybe you’ve once been a victim of those once highly popular door-knockers. You know what I’m talking about. Here’s the sequence:

You hear the sound of a “nock, nock” on your door. You go to the door and peek through your blind and see a man dressed in a slick, formal suit and tie. He holds some dark colored book under his right arm. You open the door.

You: Hello?
