The End Is Near . . . Book Coming Soon

In my last post, I had mentioned that even though I was on a break from blogging, I was still working on a few things.

. . . Always working on things

That being said, I’d like to share with you what I have coming up real soon.

Remember the “T.H.I.N.C.” series I did for Demian Farnworth? It was a 5-part series on a Christocentric approach to reading the Bible.

What I have done is compiled all the posts into one concise book. Actually, I’ve done much more than that.

I have updated, expanded, re-written, and re-formated the whole series.

What was originally 30 pages all together is now a 100 page book designed to help you meaning, context, and application from a Christ-centered approach to reading the Bible.

Here are a few things I’ve added:

  • Extended Chapters
  • “Think About It . . .” sections for every chapter
  • Journaling space for each chapter
  • Highly Compatible for Preaching Series
  • Highly Compatible for Small Groups
  • Bibliography
  • Focus Bible verses

This project has been nothing less than thrilling. I am very excited for the release date of the book.

Quite a few people are already asking for copies. The book isn’t even published yet and a church is waiting so that they can order an entire shipment for their people.

The book should be published near the end of May. I was ready to publish it earlier, but a few respective people have agreed to read it, review it, and offer feedback before I publish. Their insight for the book will be extremely beneficial.

The Cross: What Did Jesus Die For?

Did you know that I am writing a series on the cross?

Some of you Old Testament junkies will enjoy this.

I’m taking my sweet ole’ time with it too. I have recently finished answering the second question in the series and wanted to give you a snippet of the article. There you will find more information, along with an entire table of Old Testament prophesies fulfilled in Jesus.

This is a series where I will leave the comment section open in the articles. That way, if people have questions (specifically, people who don’t know Jesus) they can ask them openly.

Take a moment to give it a read. Leave some feedback in the comments below.

Question #2: What did Jesus die for?

Let’s take a look at 1 Corinthians 15:3. Starting at verse 3, it says, “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures . . .”

Jesus died for our sins according to Scripture. This is important, because if it was not according to Scripture He would not have been the Deliverer. What I mean by that is all the prophecies—or foretelling—of Christ in the Old Testament regarding the coming Messiah was fulfilled in the person of Jesus. Everything had to line up with all the hundreds of prophecies in order for this to actually be what it is.

Our first introduction to the promise of a deliverer is found in Genesis 3:15, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” This is called the protoevangelium. In other words, the first gospel, or “good news”. The wording for offspring is singular. The word “offspring” is the Hebrew word “zera`” (zeh’-rah), which may be better translated “seed.” This is singular, not plural—The Seed. From that point on, the Bible records that God’s people long for the promised Messiah.

How to Make Your Morning Devotions Stick Like Glue

Devotions come in many sizes and flavors. You have the soft mushy kind, the dry scholarly kind, and the in-between kind.

But what I bring to you is one that when you come out of your devotional time you will have grasped the meaning of the the text, and where you fit into the God story.

Often times when you read, I bet you have the “hustle-bustle” type of experience. You have a desire to spend your mornings in devotion, yet your busy life just won’t submit.

If this describes you, then keep reading.

My mornings usually consist of scrounging around the house trying to find the clothes I just washed last night, what I can pop in the toaster for a quick breakfast, trying to shower in the time it takes two cups of coffee to brew, and if I’m lucky, getting a few Bible verses in view. All to get out of the house in just enough time to make it to work 30 seconds before being late.

Should I tell you how often I get those Bible verses in? I’ll let you guess . . . Okay, fine I’ll tell you: Not often.

So what to do about this?

T.H.I.N.C., Christ-Centered Bible Study, Part 3

Focus on Jesus
Four weeks ago we launched a 5-part series on how to study the Bible for Demian Farnworth on Fallen and Flawed.

This is a Christ-centered approach where we use the acronym T. H. I. N. C. as a study aid.

Part one was T for “Trust”—that’s where we begin—and part two was H for “Halting”—when Scripture causes us to put on the brakes.

Presidential Debate Weigh In

That is, in your faith.

I used to get involved in debates quite frequently.

Most of them were online, and sometimes in some kind of forum. Other times they have been personal.

But never have I participated in a formal debate—I still wonder about that.

Recently, though, I have been involved in a bit of a debate with another person in a comment thread on a website I often read.

It’s been a back-and-forth commenting on the issue of the Bible Read more
