What is the Gospel?
It begins with the fact . . .
That God created man sinless,
⎯that mankind sinned (disobeyed God),
⎯thereby placing himself outside the immediate relationship of God,
That since this has happened sinned has entered the world
⎯and has disabled man to self-establish the relationship broken from that act of sin,
⎯that in spite of humans’ fallen condition, God chose to reveal himself to people throughout history
This history is recorded in the Old Testament as a way of pouring out His divine grace
⎯and as a testament to His long-suffering
⎯and as a proving of man’s inability to save himself.
Fortunately, there was a divine intervention, approximately 2,000 years ago.
And through His patience and at the right time God sent His Son Jesus,
⎯to fulfill the perfect law that man could never fulfill
⎯and offer Himself as a sacrifice for the transgressions of men,
That by doing so He would reestablish a broken relationship
⎯with those who believe
⎯and secure an eternal salvation for them,
That in final judgment those who have
⎯confessed with their mouth and believed in their heart
⎯that Jesus is the Son of God and that God had raised Him from the dead,
These believing individuals would not suffer eternal judgment and separation from the Father,
⎯but enjoy a purposeful life on earth
⎯and enjoy an eternal relationship with Him in glory.
Both religious people and irreligious people need forgiveness of sins
Willful disobedience, as well as self-righteous deeds must be confessed and repented from. Both of them will push you further away from Jesus. Jesus’ work is the only work valuable enough to have any eternal significance regarding your salvation. Jesus gives hope, meaning, purpose, and significance to life. I am convinced that the purposes of our hearts will be forever frustrated until we are united with the creator of it: Jesus.
