Book Review: The Hole In Our Gospel by Richard Stearns

Today I review a book through BookSneeze, an extension of Thomas Nelson, The Hole in Our Gospel, by Richard Stearns.

Richard Stearns is the president of World Vision U.S. In his book, he writes of his journey through faith and how the corporate world took a toll on it.

In his introduction, Stearns clearly defines the perspective at which he is approaching in his book:

“we are carriers of the gospel—the good news that was meant to change the world. Belief is not enough. Worship is not enough. Personal morality is not enough. And Christian community is not enough. . . . When we committed ourselves to following Christ, we also committed to living our lives in such a way that a watching world would catch a glimpse of God’s character—His love, justice, and mercy—through our words, actions, and behavior” (3).

Advertising on SB. What It’s For, What It’s Not For.

I thought it would be good for me to explain to you all a few things going on here at SB.

As you will notice, there have been a few advertisements around here. That being said (and seen) I want to be very clear and honest with you why I am doing this.

I respect your relationship(s) and your readership to this site. I am continually humbled that anyone would return to this rag-tag website anticipating content. I am truly thankful.

Now, on to business.

Why are there advertisements on SB?

I have been thinking a lot about doing advertisements. One thing I can’t stand is a website that has advertisements of just about any random product you can think of. This is not my purpose, and you will not see that type of advertisements here.

For one, I want to offer more resources for people who visit this site. For two, I would like to make more use out of this site, and extra cash never hurts. Actually, this is one way I’m hoping to earn extra.

So if you think that you have product or a website that would benefit from advertising here on SortingBeans, contact me and we’ll talk.

Get Media

At Media.SortingBeans.com

I have decided to add a “Media” section to this website, making it easier to tap into resources. This new addition—www.media.sortingbeans.com—will be for the sake of videos, podcasting, sermons, etc.

My purpose in this sub-domain is to provide more ways for people to grow in Christ through Visual Scriptural Interaction. You will find sermons, discussions, podcasts, and other categories of media to help cultivate learning Scripture and growth in Christ

Books of the Bible

Okay, so this is my attempt to make the books of the Bible easy to remember.

These are the odd ways I use to help me remember. Many times I will think of an odd rhyming word in order to remember another word. Or I will create a silly story to help me remember something in more length. Well, I thought I’d share what I use to help me remember the books of the Bible.

I first tried this out on facebook and got a pretty good response to the New Testament. The Old Testament is a little more difficult. You will have to be familiar with the book names. Every word that represents a book of the Bible will be capitalized if it does not already have its own name. So, here’s my stab at it. Let’s see how it goes. Continue Reading…

Blog and Resources

That has become the purpose of this site—Engaging the Journey of Faith

If you’re not aware, I am working on adding resources to this website that will aid your faith journey. This will not be an all-inclusive resources site, but I do intend to add some helpful information that people may benefit from.

If you have not noticed before, there is a Resources tab above that can lead you to some additional material other than the blog. In this category you will find information about Scripture, about the Gospel, and some helpful links. Continue Reading…

Relief and Resources!

Relief because many working people have a 3 day weekend!

Resources because, well, you’ll see.

As I said in my last post, I’ve been a little busy and decided to make my time most useful by making my blog posting secondary to my other responsibility. I have had a great time, though, contributing to other blogger’s post comments. Such as explaining the doctrine of Limited Atonement. What fun! Continue Reading…

Time, Tools, and Accountability

Lately I have spent a lot of time trying to organize me.

For those who don’t know, I am in Bible College and lately I have been very busy doing research for a Chemistry presentation and paper. Chemistry is not my favorite subject, but I did learn a lot of really cool things that are very relative to life. One of the major things is the fact that we (humans) depend so much on natural law. It’s amazing how many natural laws we depend on for our existence. This is just another Case for a Creator (pun intended) I think is overlooked big time.

So, like I said, Organize.

I’ve been Continue Reading…
